The framework of postdoctoral research at the University of Peloponnese is presented below:
- Postdoctoral research is characterized by research conducted in an academic unit (Department) of the University of Peloponnese by a researcher who holds a PhD and is accepted by the Department in the context of updating studies in relation to advanced research. The main objectives of the postdoctoral research are:
- a) the extension of the results of the researcher's doctoral dissertation to new scientific directions of interest to the Department,
- b) the development of new research areas in the Department, related to the scientific area of the researcher's dissertation,
- c) the contribution to the approach of specific research problems that concern the Department,
(d) supporting scientists capable of contributing to the advancement of science, research and applications,
- e) the promotion of academic prestige and international distinction of the research work of the University.
- There is the possibility of accepting a postdoctoral researcher, if the interested party meets the necessary conditions, has a proven, high level scientific profile and submits an interesting research proposal.
- Postdoctoral researchers must: (a) hold a Domestic Doctorate or equivalent degree abroad recognized by Hellenic National Recognition and Information Center (Hellenic N.A.R.I.C.), in a subject related to that of the proposed postdoctoral research and (b) to know at least one foreign language.
Those interested submit an application to the Secretariat of the Department, in which they report the subject of the proposed research and the proposed as Supervising Professor. The application is accompanied by certified copies of diplomas, curriculum vitae, list of published works, two letters of recommendation and a short research proposal.
- The acceptance of the postdoctoral researcher is made by the Assembly of the Department, after a written proposal of the proposed as supervisor. The presentation identifies the object, purpose, duration, phases and expected results of the proposed research project and documents the need for its implementation within the specific academic unit and the postdoctoral research that will be developed by the postdoctoral researcher. Once the proposal is accepted, the Assembly of the Department proceeds to the acceptance of the postdoctoral researcher and the appointment of the supervising professor.
- The postdoctoral researcher cooperates with the supervisor of the postdoctoral research. The postdoctoral researcher is provided by the Department, under the responsibility of the supervisor, with the necessary infrastructure for the elaboration of his research project.
- The Department has the ability to employ postdoctoral researchers in support of the educational process.
- The duration of the postdoctoral research may not exceed three years. Extension of the duration of the postdoctoral research beyond three years can be done, after a substantiated proposal of the supervisor, with a decision of the Assembly of the Department for the completion of the research project.
- Upon completion of the postdoctoral research, the researcher submits to the Assembly of the Department, in collaboration with the supervising Professor, a final report of the results of his research activity.
- The Assembly of the Department certifies, at the request of the researcher, the completion of his postdoctoral research.
The interested party is issued a certificate, which mentions the Department of the University of Peloponnese, the subject and the time of the postdoctoral research.
The certificate is not a degree.
